GEORGIA O'KEEFE - GHOST RANCH

Following our visit to Los Alamos, we drove to the Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu NM, where Georgia O'Keefe spent summers beginning in 1934. Many of her most well-known paintings were done in the Ghost Ranch area. After her husband, Alfred Stieglitz, died, she made Abiquiu her permanent home until the last years of her life, when she moved to Santa Fe NM. Ghost Ranch is currently run by the Presbyterian Church as a retreat location.

LOS ALAMOS NM - FAT MAN & LITTLE BOY

Los Alamos NM is approximately an hour drive northwest of Santa Fe. Although the Los Alamos National Laboratory research facility is obviously off-limits to the public, there is a museum in town which includes replicas of "Little Boy" and "Fat Man," the nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, respectively.
